The Big Picture:

The COBRA Administrator role is responsible for processing COBRA matters in accordance with current laws and regulations. This includes processing COBRA election notices, completed COBRA election forms and COBRA payments.

Responsibilities

The Day-to-Day:

  • Generate all required COBRA Election Notices to plan participants in accordance with COBRA laws and regulations
  • Review the Plan Documents for each group to create COBRA rate sheets and ensure only COBRA qualifying products are being billed and paid for by the member
  • Coordinate communication between internal departments regarding COBRA customer service matters including COBRA qualifying events
  • Communicate with COBRA software vendor about any system issues
  • Communicate with members by email or by phone when needed to resolve any COBRA questions or concerns
  • Update the Billing system and COBRA system to ensure everything is processed correctly for COBRA and Termed Groups
  • Assist with the Termed Group process as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

The Right Person for the job has: 

  • Knowledge of employee benefits and insurance products
  • Knowledge of COBRA laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of Billing and Implementation to process COBRA payments.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the Internet.
  • Research and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to change
  • Ability to be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet department deadline
  • Ability to be self-sufficient with minimum oversight.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous COBRA admin experience preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Repetitive motions
  • Little physical effort required
