Summary:

The Employee Benefits Team Leader provides a high level of support to team members, including Account Representatives, Account Executives and Sales Executives.  The Team Leader maintains an assigned book of business as required.  Serves as representative of team to Management.  Requires a significant degree of independent judgment and discretion.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs Account Executive duties for an assigned book of business and carries out the duties and responsibilities applicable to that position. 
  • Delivers high end service to Clients and team members.  Ensures that their Team processes accounts, including updates in the agency management system, creation and delivery of proposals to clients, and completion of carrier paperwork.  Provides communication where needed to the EB customer service team.  Ensures accuracy of account information for new and renewal policies.  Determines reasons for group cancellations and acts to maintain the account.  Notifies Producer and Manager, as needed.
  • Oversees the collaboration with the service team and marketing team for managing new and renewal accounts.  Assists in identifying opportunities for adding other lines of coverage or services.  Makes recommendations on the sale as needed.
  • Manages Team’s on-going activity documentation within the Agency Management System.  Ensures accuracy of information within the Agency Management System by utilizing report packages produced regularly.  Assists with other accounts as needed. 
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with clients, carriers and staff.  Willingness to assume new responsibilities including performance of duties outside of normal position.  Responsible for balance within team regarding workload.  Responsible for quality of work within the Team.
  • Serves as a mentor, positive role model and trainer to staff.  Performs annual Employee Performance Appraisals for team members.  Resolve Employee Relations issues with assistance from their Manager and/or Human Resources.
  • Works with manager to ensure adequate staffing.  Participates in the interview process for prospective EB service employees. Assists during the onboarding process.
  • Attends client meeting with or without Producer as needed.  Works independently with little or no supervision and achieve desired results.
  • Follows agency policies and procedures with respect to all essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems, in a back up capacity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.                                                   
  • Five or more years industry experience.  Advanced understanding of underwriting and insurance coverages.
  • Full knowledge of Employee Benefits insurance markets.
