Administers information from clients by phone, email and fax in order to process insurance claims; work with clients, adjusters, claimants, outside counsel, and carrier on claims handling, coverage issues, and questions.  Additional responsibility for managing claims, collaborating with insureds and resolving claims in conjunction with the carrier.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Adjusts claims, interprets complex policy coverages and determines if coverage applies, drafts complex coverage letters, sets reserves, investigates and evaluates claims, manages litigation, retains and works with outside defense counsel, negotiates complex settlements, participates in mediations, authorizes payment within authority, identifies third party recovery potential, and keeps current on state/territory regulations and industry trends.  Drafts claim reports and trial calendars for carriers.  
  • Serves as Adjuster and contact for Insured and Counsel for claims related issues.
  • Resolves coverage questions or refers to Claims Consultant, Director of Claims, Account Executives or Account Managers as appropriate.
  • Prepares claims information for presentations as requested.
  • Resolves claim and coverage issues in coordination with Director of Claims and Claims Manager in order to reduce E&O exposure.
  • Follows company policies and procedures with respect to all essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • May issue carrier claim checks as required. Check issuance will follow carrier guidelines as well as Agency procedures.
  • May have additional assigned duties including but not limited to office administration.  May direct one employee with respect to office administration activities.


Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Law degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Certifications or licenses

Must have or obtain valid Adjuster license; Property and Casualty Agent license preferred.
