Summary:

Leadership position responsible for managing the unit accounting operations including, agency and direct bill production and related accounts receivable and producer commission expense, company and vendor payables and other general ledger accounts specifically assigned. Responsible for ensuring transactions are processed in a timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsible for responding to internal and external customer information requests in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring customer satisfaction. Responsible for proactive communication and the identification and elimination of non-value added activities that improve the efficiency of the department.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all accounting entries are completed by the second business day subsequent month end and issued. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the monthly financial statements, including (1) the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers or account support documents to the general ledger (2) the identification and explanation of actual vs. prior year for revenue or expense fluctuations (3) the preparation and accuracy of various financial management related reports.
  • Maintains the Agency management system from an accounting perspective.
  • Manages accounts receivable and ensures the accounts receivable policy is properly enforced.
  • Responsible for proactive communication and the identification and elimination of non-value added activities that improve the efficiency of the department. Responds to internal and external requests in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, priorities, policies and procedures relating to the accounting department.
  • Directs the installation and maintenance of accounting records to document receipts and expenditures.
  • Responsible for maintaining and identifying improvements to improve the overall internal control environment to assist in preventing and detecting errors from occurring, safeguarding the Agency’s assets.
  • Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
  • Uploads required reporting and documentation to Cadency audit software by appropriate company deadlines. 
  • Possible Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervises and trains accounting specialists and accounting assistants, ensuring transactions are processed in a timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company guidelines.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Works with senior management including the CFO and others to improve the profitability and growth of the Agency. 

  • Oversight of financial reporting on a monthly basis. Creates detailed general ledger schedules associated with the assigned profit centers to assist with audits, surveys, and tax return preparations. Meets deadlines associated with the month-end close process of assigned profit centers.
  • Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.

  • Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.

  • Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions.  Responsible for cash management and or bank reconciliations associated with the accounts linked to the assigned profit centers

  • Follows company procedures with respect to all essential duties and responsibilities of the job.

     

     

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
