  • Overview

    The Benefits Information Specialist (BIS) role is responsible for the collection, analysis and processing of client data and preparation of client invoices, vouchers, retirement funding reports, and other client-related reports. The Benefits Information Specialist is also responsible for assisting in the implementation of new clients and recommending continuous process improvement initiatives for key business processes. Exceptional analysis, critical thinking, process improvement, and communication skills are essential to this position.


    • Collect data by identifying sources of information and designing collection methods.
    • Organize information by studying, analyzing, interpreting, and classifying data.
    • Process data files received from the Client for integration with GSA systems.
    • Analyze variances between data sources and collaborate with Client Owner(s) to ensure updates to most current employee benefit and demographic information.
    • Prepare Invoices for submission to client.
    • Prepare Vouchers for submission to Finance for payment of benefit premiums to carriers.
    • Prepare Client reports, including Retirement Funding reports.
    • Perform carrier billing reconciliations (carrier bill versus benefits system).
    • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
    • Train others regarding data sources, limitations of data, efficient ways to retrieve and transform data and best practices in managing data quality.
    • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences.
    • Handle client questions with the highest degree of quality, courtesy and professionalism to resolve customer issues, effectively communicating plans for resolution.
    • Learn and maintain benefits and Service Contract Act knowledge.
    • Learn and maintain Leave of Absence (LOA) knowledge.
    • Complete assigned tasks related to day-to-day operations of GSA. These processes may include, but are not limited to, eligibility enrollments, systems variances reports, carrier audits, retirement funding analyses, analysis of premium reserve accounts, processing of Hours and Contribution reports, Leave of Absence (LOA) processing and GSA system integration tasks.
    • Adhere to outlined GSA policies & procedures according to company documentation, department training manuals, and customer service guides.


    • Bachelor’s degree required, or appropriate combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum 2 years benefits data analysis or similar experience.
    • Benefits and/or human resources work experience preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to speak and read English clearly, professionally and fluently. 
    • Proven ability to work as an active participant in a team environment.
    • Excel – Intermediate Level required (see description below)
    • Interpersonal skills, maintaining professional relations with internal staff and external clients.
    • Ability to solve problems in a straightforward manner.
    • Capable of multi-tasking and working under pressure.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential compensation and financial information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
