Summary: Leadership position responsible for managing the unit accounting operations and related accounts receivables, company and vendor payables and other general ledger accounts specifically assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for ensuring transactions are processed in a timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Oversight of agency financial operations and reporting on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Meets deadlines associated with the month-end close process.
Prepares reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
Responsible for cash management and administration of banking associated with agency accounts, including bank reconciliations, and requisite EFT files.
Responsible for reconciliation of insurance carrier account current agreements and premium financing transactions, and assists with carrier payments as well as processing of client return premiums.
Overall management of agency accounts payable and accounts receivables, including aged receivables.
Supervises and trains accounting assistants, ensuring transactions are processed in a timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsible for responding to internal and external customer information requests in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Responsible for proactive communication and the identification and elimination of non-value added activities that improve the efficiency of the department.
Works with managment to improve the profitability and growth of the agency.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with GreatPlains accounting software preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as, probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts, such as, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
