Overview

We are seeking an experienced Benefit Specialist with broker experience to manage and enhance our employee benefits programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in benefits administration, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with insurance brokers and carriers. The candidate MUST be proficient in Microsoft products and system management and be computer savvy. Training on broker experiences will be provided for the right candidate.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in managing benefits data and documentation.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as primary day-to-day point of contact for client contacts (typically Benefits and Human Resources staff).    
  • Perform administrative tasks related to all types of employee benefit programs for assigned clients, including group medical, dental, vision, life, disability, Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and retirement accounts.    
  • Lead or assist in leading open enrollment activities for assigned clients.  These activities include project planning, communications, system updates, and processing enrollment changes.  
  • Communicate benefits information to all clients’ employees, including in-person benefits meetings, webinars, and one-on-one employee support.   
  • Resolve employee issues through customer service, including resolution of issues escalated by Customer Service Representatives.    
  • Process employee demographic changes in systems, including new hires, status changes, qualifying events, and terminations; Process employee enrollment changes with benefit plan provider (carrier) systems, through both electronic enrollment files and carrier web portals.    
  • Manage client business process and identify areas for continued improvement, making recommendations to update processes, as required.  
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the client's plans and administrative procedures and as the key resource for day-to-day issues.  Direct the team on handling plan or client specific questions, keeping the team updated on client-specific information.  
  • Prepare Invoices for submission to client. Prepare Vouchers for submission to Finance for payment of benefit premiums to carriers. Prepare Client reports, including Retirement Funding reports.  
  • Process data files received from the Client for integration with systems. Perform carrier billing reconciliations (carrier bill versus benefits system).  
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Travel is expected to be 10-20% in this role.

What You'll Need

  • Education Bachelor degree preferred; or 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Benefit Specialist or similar role, with specific experience working with insurance brokers. 
    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in human resources or benefits administration; Experience with HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration. 
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of various employee benefits programs and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in HRIS and related software.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must be proficient in Microsoft products (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and system management. Being computer savvy is essential.
